Subject: Partnership and Funding Appeal – The Purple Butterfly Foundation NPC
My name is Jessica Steyn, Founder and CEO of The Purple Butterfly Foundation NPC. I am writing to you not only as the founder of a newly established non-profit organisation, but also as a survivor of domestic violence who understands firsthand how deeply broken, inaccessible, and often overwhelming support systems can be for vulnerable women and children in South Africa.
I have more than 15 years experience in running and supervising embroidery factory operations. My vision is to start a location-based embroidery business, employ, assist and grow skills that empower women.
Having escaped an abusive environment and rebuilt my life from the ground up, I experienced the reality that leaving abuse is only the beginning of the journey. True freedom requires safety, emotional healing, financial independence, skills development, secure housing, and the opportunity to rebuild a life with dignity and purpose.
It was from this personal journey that The Purple Butterfly Foundation was born.
Our Foundation
Our foundation is a faith-based organisation committed to creating a practical pathway from survival to restoration. We believe that every woman and child deserves the opportunity to move beyond the circumstances that once defined them and to discover that their past does not have to determine their future.
Our Biblical Foundation
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”Ephesians 2:10
At the heart of The Purple Butterfly Foundation is the belief that a person's past does not have to define their future. Through faith, support, skills development, meaningful work, and opportunity, lives can be transformed and restored.
We believe every survivor has inherent value, God-given potential, and a purpose beyond the circumstances they have endured. Our role is to help create the environment in which that potential can be developed—through protection, transformation, education, vocational skills, employment, entrepreneurship, and restoration.
We are not simply helping women survive; we are helping them rebuild, work, create, provide, and discover their purpose again.
The Purple Butterfly represents this journey of transformation: from a place of brokenness and survival into one of strength, dignity, independence, purpose, and renewed hope.
For us, these words represent more than scripture. They represent a calling to stand alongside women who have been broken by abuse, to help them find safety, rebuild their confidence, develop practical skills, and ultimately regain their independence.
Our Three Foundational Pillars
1. Protection
Creating access to safety, emergency assistance, secure accommodation, and support for women and children escaping abusive environments.
2. Transformation
Providing skills development, education, mentorship, personal development, and opportunities that enable survivors to regain confidence and transform their circumstances.
3. Restoration
Supporting survivors in rebuilding their lives through sustainable employment, entrepreneurship, financial independence, stable housing, and reintegration into society.
We believe that true restoration is difficult to achieve while women remain financially dependent, unemployed, or without safe accommodation. Too many survivors are forced to return to abusive environments because they have nowhere safe to go and no sustainable means of supporting themselves or their children.
The Purple Butterfly Foundation therefore seeks to address the cycle of abuse at its roots.

Transitional and Emergency Accommodation
One of the greatest barriers facing women escaping domestic violence is the absence of safe and affordable accommodation.
We are therefore appealing to organisations, property owners, churches, community organisations, accommodation providers, and donors who may assist us with:
- Emergency safe-housing placements
- Transitional accommodation
- Temporary residential facilities
- Subsidised accommodation
- Housing partnerships for women rebuilding independent lives
Our Appeal for Partnership
As a newly established NPC, we are currently seeking startup funding, equipment donations, professional services, strategic partnerships, and operational support to enable us to formally establish and launch our administrative and vocational structures.
We recognise that meaningful change cannot be achieved by one organisation alone. It requires businesses, government, communities, churches, professionals, donors, and individuals to work together.
By partnering with The Purple Butterfly Foundation, your organisation will have the opportunity to make a direct and measurable contribution toward restoring safety, dignity, skills, independence, and hope to vulnerable women and children who have endured domestic violence, abuse, and trauma.
Our ultimate goal is not to create dependency. Our goal is to create a pathway from dependency to independence, from survival to stability, and from trauma to restoration.
Accountability & Stewardship
We are still in the early stages of formally establishing the Foundation, but our vision is grounded in faith, practical action, accountability, compassionate stewardship, and sustainable impact. We are committed to ensuring that every contribution entrusted to The Purple Butterfly Foundation is used responsibly and directed toward initiatives that create meaningful outcomes for survivors.
An Invitation to Work Together
We would be deeply grateful for the opportunity to meet with your team, introduce our organisation, present our operational vision, and discuss how your organisation could become part of this journey.
There is a saying that a butterfly does not become beautiful without first going through transformation. For many survivors, the journey from abuse to independence can feel much the same. With the right protection, support, skills, opportunity, and faith, a life that has been broken can be rebuilt.
As Isaiah 61:3 reminds us, we are called to provide “a crown of beauty instead of ashes.”
That is the heart of The Purple Butterfly Foundation.
We are asking you to partner with us in turning ashes into hope, survival into strength, and brokenness into a restored future.
Thank you sincerely for your time, compassion, and consideration. We would welcome the opportunity to work together to create meaningful and lasting change within our communities.
Yours faithfully,
Jessica Steyn
